George William Erskine Russell PC (1853-1919), who also wrote under the pseudonym One Who Has Kept a Diary, was a Liberal Party politician in the United Kingdom. He was educated at Harrow School and at University College, Oxford. He was Liberal Member of Parliament for Aylesbury from 1880-1885 and for Biggleswade from 1892-1895. He served in government as Parliamentary Secretary to the Local Government Board from 1883-1885, as Under- Secretary of State for India from 1892-1894 and Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department from 1894-1895. He was also an Alderman on London County Council from 1889-1895. He was appointed a Privy Counsellor in 1907, and held the honorary degree of LLD from St. Andrews University. His works include: Collections and Recollections (1898), Sydney Smith (1905), Prime Ministers and Some Others: A Book of Reminiscences (1918) and Fifteen Chapters of Autobiography (1914).
