[EMP 01] • Nuclear Winter
EMP brings to reality the aftermath of an actual EMP and nuclear attack, accurately depicting how a mismatch group of survivors confined to the tunnels of the abandoned Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository at Jackass Flats, Nevada conform to rule by martial law while fighting the elements of a nuclear winter, and attacks from a rogue army seeking their food and women. Following an EMP attack upon the United States, a contingency plan kicks in to shelter some of the nation’s top scientists and their families in the abandoned Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository at Jackass Flats, Nevada. A nuclear exchange that occurs later isolates this group of survivors in a highly technological environment inside the mountain to ensure their survival on a planet that in the time span of one-second reentered the Stone Age.
EMP is a work of fiction because to date the world has never experienced an EMP, electromagnetic pulse attack or a nuclear winter. However, it is just a matter of time before a group or nation of radicals will use such a dreadful device in a terrorist attack on a major American city with the same effect as described in this book.
The scenario for this EMP story models after what is happening now and such an attack could occur at any time. Selecting the state of Nevada as the venue makes the story more realistic by affiliating the characters with actual technological activities occurring at the Nevada National Security Site and at the Area 51 technological laboratories. EMP takes the reader through the attack and realistically addresses logistics, security, survivor selection, social, cultural, education, and other issues required to prepare a society capable of rebuilding a nation devoid of the technology they once depended on.
