Gunner is the Sargent at Arms for the notorious motorcycle club known as Exiles. They hail out of Apache Junction, Arizona, but have chapters all over west of the Mississippi River. Tragedy almost destroyed him. The club saved his life. Determined to live the life of a bachelor he filled his days building houses and doing whatever the club president and vice president needed. The work kept him busy, which kept him out of his own head, and out of prison, or worse. Without the club he might have drowned in the all-encompassing loss of never being able to have a normal life again.

Until tragedy struck again, only this time it wasn't his tragedy to suffer. This time someone needed his help to keep from drowning in her own familiar sorrows. Violet lost her parents in what will go down in history as one of the most horrendous accidents the club will ever experience. To this day he can't say why she looked to him. He barely knew her. Something in her eyes made it very clear he was her only salvation.

She was just a kid, at least as far as he was concerned, when her life derailed. He took his responsibility seriously and made sure she stayed afloat and got her life together. He saw her off to college and did his best to resume the life he had before that horrible day.
