Who would believe that a simple rose could save a man’s heart?

Orphaned as a young child, Annabelle Bradshaw is raised by her aunt and uncle. Although her uncle John Roebuck is a kind man, her aunt Vivian never really wants the child, especially with three girls of her own, and finds ways to make life unpleasant for the girl.

When her uncle dies, all kindness and love dies with him and the girl is reduced to the status of a mere servant. When sent out on an errand one cold winters day, Annabelle does not return and her aunt Vivian and cousins almost seem to hope for the worst!

Enter Sir Henry Faversham, who turns out to be Annabelle’s knight in shining armour. Her aunt, however, has other plans. Sir Henry finally manages to pull Annabelle from the clutches of her aunt , but things are not as they seem.

The arrival of Sir Henry’s young cousin, the Marquess of Marlborough sets off a chain of events of that seem certain to end in tragedy.
