Steph has been lost to the Shade, the Brood. Byryn knows that world better than any. He knows how seductive and deceptive it can be, and how easily she could lose herself. He also knows exactly what it will take to get her back and that he's the only one who can do it. With Lazurys breathing down their throats and his mate and Astryn carrying their young, he knows the threats they all face. No one else can protect them, but Byryn knows he can. Steph is lost and confused. She knows on some level this is a mistake, but where else can she turn? She has no friends or family outside the Fae and they've betrayed her. Of course she betrayed her mate first, but she'd tried to do the right thing and walk away. The Shade are the nightmare, the enemy, but John looked out for her before he became Ravyshyn. Yeah he hurt her, but so has everyone else she's ever cared about. As she loses herself, falling deeper and deeper in Ravyshyn and his sire's seductions, it feels like she loses herself more and more. She should fight this, break their hold and run, but they're the only ones that can give her back the one person she wants most, her Father.
