In 1978 five men die in a shack in Soweto during a skirmish between the South African Security Forces and a group of black freedom fighters. A year earlier the five men all unknowingly travelled from Durban to Johannesburg on the same bus; Isaiah Zuma, a young Zulu man going to the gold mines to seek work, Bala Desai, a young Indian going to Johannesburg to take over the tailoring shop inherited from his uncle, Bogdan Vodnik, a Yugoslavian immigrant going to work on a large gold mine, Joseph Matimba, aka as Shadow, a black freedom fighter going to Soweto to set up a subversive cell and Captain Tiaan Botha, a Security Police officer intent in capturing Shadow and his operatives. But how did they all end up dying in a tiny shack in Soweto?
