Decatur, Illinois, 1973. Something is transforming banal Decatur into a place of unexpected and dangerous power. When the charismatic Gar hops off a freight train, Marilyn, a diner waitress afflicted with psychic powers, is sure she’s seen him before and her friends—a hard-drinking priest and an alternative psychology professor— must work to unravel her haunted past while Marilyn must confront her obsessive attraction to the mysterious stranger to discover who and what she really is.
