We thought the invaders had gone for good. We thought the battle was over. We thought that Earth was all they wanted. But now they've followed us to Mars, and they're leaving us with nowhere else to go.

Earth has long since been abandoned after a strike from the Githrook alien race. Humankind has gone to space, with the vast majority living on Mars. The men who meet the physical and intellectual requirements must enlist as troops in the Welcher-Force Unit, an elite unit of soldiers who are meant to protect the red planet at all costs.

General Welcher is the wealthiest man on the planet. He's in command of the entire unit - a unit he started for two primary reasons. One, protect their new home. Two, find his son - a boy who went missing during the invasion of Earth ten years before. People think Welcher is crazy for holding onto such old hope, but he insists that his son is still alive.

Freddy Sturgess is just seen as a regular grunt by his comrades, but his superiors know that something special lurks behind that quiet demeanor, and he's going to become the savior they all need. When a distress call comes in from Earth, Welcher and Freddy both learn that the son is indeed alive - but they learn something else from him as well.

He warns them that they should expect company in the not-so-distant future. Earth wasn't enough for the alien invaders. The Githrooks are coming for Mars now as well.

Freddy steps up to the plate as the fate of mankind rests on his shoulders. He's the strongest, smartest, and fastest one there is - but it still may not be enough to stop the Githrooks. Regardless, without Freddy, mankind has no hope. He's the best chance they've got.
