Despite the title, this is not a religious book. It is more of a religious man who aspires to his own version of the faith and the resultant consequences of his beliefs .

In southern England, a baffling series of murders is taking place and the task of solving them falls to Detective Inspector, Graham Sampler of the Metropolitan Police Force and his assistant, Detective Sergeant, Clive Miller. Each death is as a result of poisoning but the administration of this is a mystery as is the one major clue to the killer’s identity.
