Walking in the Haute Savoie

Outside the Chamonix area few books have been written in English concerning the Haute Savoie and the innumerable walking possibilities of the region, which range from the gentle pre-alps south of Lake Geneva (Chablais, Saleve and Vallee Verte), covered in this first book to the higher peaks further south, between Annecy and Chamonix covered in Book 2. These walking guides also give historical background, descriptions of the different areas the walks start from, plus additional information regarding the towns and villages which can be used as centres. There are chapters concerning how to get there, equipment, walk explanations, flora and fauna. The detailed maps accompanying each walk descriptive, with numbering at major points, are clear and helpful.
