Weeks after the events of the first book, Winton and Julius attempt to reconnect and get some much needed R&R at a family beach house in Galveston, Texas. But their plans to kick their feet up are complicated by a young local's recent suicide. While his death doesn't immediately suggest foul play, it does illuminate the presence of a curious new party drug on the Island. Before Winton and Julius can learn much about it, a childhood friend of Winton's is killed with an overdose, and they're the only ones convinced it was premeditated murder. Winton and Julius must turn to the local cops in the hopes of keeping things on the up and up.

But incompetent and obstructive law officers, hulking zombified assassins, a mysterious drifter, and doctors with dark pasts all intersect in a mystery that won't unravel itself without Winton and Julius taking the reins. As they struggle with questions left over from the events in Louisiana, and with new foes in Galveston, they come to find that the darkness of present, past, and future all swirls around bad medicine.
