[The Mafia Trilogy 01] • The Kill (The Mafia Trilogy Book 1)

‘The Kill’ is a fast-paced action thriller with a unique lead character. The plot twists and turns, and the reader is kept in suspense as to whom to trust, just as Darwin is. It ends with a clear eye to a continuing story. Overall, I found the writing, including narrative and dialog, to be crisp. It reminded me in a way of the old Charles Bronson films, Death Wish, as Darwin an otherwise law-abiding, mild-mannered citizen, goes on a one-man vigilante spree, killing mobsters who are out to exact vengeance on him and his family for an accident. Darwin’s phobias and neuroses come out with specific triggers that precipitate a violent streak, which then enables him to perform nearly superhuman acts on professional killers and criminals. It’s a neat premise for the character, the story, and a series, it’s well-written and keeps the reader on the edge of the seat, turning pages.
