An assault on her family in the Eastern Congo sets Nicole, a young Congoles woman, off on a journey for refuge. The book follows her travels through a landscape of refugee camps and militia violence in the Eastern Congo to Uganda. She is ultimately dependant on a nunber of characters including a reluctant aid worker and a Priest in Uganda if she is going to navigate her way to safety. The assault on Nicole's family is precipitated by the trial of a warlord in the Hague, and the threat of violence and retribution shadows her flight.
