It these three marvelous lectures, Steiner first describes the karma of jealousy and mendacity. Wonder is the precondition for all cognition, and it is based on an astral apprehension of the whole, as opposed to the discursive approach of the intellect. The realization that we are ourselves the source of all pain and suffering strengthens our will. Pleasure and joy, on the other hand, are never deserved, but rather they are a gift of the gods, that should make us want to work harder.
