King Charles the First rules a quarter of the Earth, controlling his colonies with a legion of ruthless mages. Like any ruler drunk on his own power, he abuses his subjects, knowing that they lack the means to retaliate.

In the year 1776, one distant colony mounted a serious attempt at revolution, using nothing but horses and muzzle-loading rifles. To the mages' shock, they almost pulled it off. The mages annihilated them and wiped their leader's name from the history books...

...or so they thought.

The survivors went to ground, licked their wounds, and developed new machines and weaponry. Two hundred years after that uppity rebel called George Washington, a new generation of freedom fighters has risen to claim their liberty.
