DCI Kate Reynard is the senior officer in charge of Fenland Constabulary's Serious Crime Unit, and her team is legendary when it comes to arrest and conviction rates. The thing is, Kate has a secret weapon, and it's one that she dare not share with anyone. The mere mention of a clairvoyant being used on a case would have her back on traffic in the blink of an eye, but it's even worse than that, because the man with the strange gift is her own sergeant, DS Jon Summerhill.

And now Kate is going to need all the help she can get, because the remote and eerie marshlands that compose a large part of her patch are becoming the stage for a series of insidious killings. Young women are disappearing, and the only one to be found alive is so traumatised that she has no memory of what happened.

Kate knows that she and her close-knit team of detectives are hunting a ruthless and brutal killer, but as the truth unfolds she discovers that the lonely fen is harbouring something more horrible than they could ever imagined. The past and the present collide with disastrous consequences, and Kate realises that their own lives are in jeopardy as they try to put an end to a reign of terror.
