It starts with a phone call in the dead of night.

A flat is burning, in a tower block on the edge of town. Detective Slater would know the address anywhere — Detective Norman’s place! Slater races round there, heart thumping, to find a blazing inferno.

If Norman is home tonight, there’s no way he’s getting out alive.

The flat turns out to be empty. But Slater’s relief soon turns to panic. Next morning, Norman is nowhere to be found. Not at his flat, not down the station. Nowhere.
