Located more or less in the heart of Hong Kong’s buzzing Lan Kwai Fong area, Hotel LKF is a very stylish boutique hotel that serves as a gradual transition from the party scene outside to an altogether calmer environment. Opened in 2006, it has already picked up several awards (Business Traveller magazine’s “Best Boutique Hotel in Asia Pacific 2009”), including in the interior design category (by top local design firm Cream Design). As soon as you walk into the lobby, one gets an immediate sense of intimacy and comfort. Standard rooms are 500 sq. ft. and are generous in furnishings (Aeron chair), appliances (42-inch flat screen, iPod docking station, Illy espresso machine) and little luxuries (Molten Brown bathroom products, proper fluffy slippers). Each room is different in terms of layout, lighting configuration and wall decoration. Rooms 02 and 08 are deemed favourites by the staff for the rain showers and Room 08 for the view over HK Government Garden. And like all good boutique hotels, the staff has the uncanny ability to address you by your name when they bump into you during your stay. With 95 rooms, Hotel LKF seems just the right size and has become a favourite with many (40% of guests return). Moreover, located on the 29/30th floors is Azure, a contemporary restaurant (A Hong Kong Tatler Best Restaurant 2008-09—see Azure) and lounge bar (with pool table) that fits in effortlessly with the rest of the hotel’s intimate and cool ambiance. Selected by the Sunday Times as one of the world’s top 10 sky bars, the outdoor terrace at Azure is worth stepping out on. In short, there’s a lot going for Hotel LKF, and you certainly won’t have far to stagger back after a night out in Lan Kwai Fong.
