Cacti are evergreen succulents that can blossom with some of the most breathtaking creations. This particular cactus is spherical, heavily ribbed, bluish-green with spines and topped with a yellow flower.
1. Pipe a big mound of buttercream or use a ball of cake for the base of the cactus. Then, using dark green buttercream, position the Wilton 352 Nozzle with the two pointed tips against the mound.
2. Continuously squeeze the piping bag as you pull up towards the centre.
3. Repeat the same process until the whole mound is covered, making sure that there are no gaps.
4. Use scissors to trim the top of the mound and create a flat surface.
5. Use yellow or untinted buttercream in a piping bag with a small hole at the tip, and pipe short spikes on the sides of the cactus for the spines.
6. Pipe five simple petals (see Basic Petal Strokes) in yellow, using the Wilton 103 Nozzle, to create a flower on top of the cactus, and add a green centre using a piping bag with a small hole at the tip.
