Forget-me-not

The flowers of forget-me-nots are usually small, blue, five petalled and have yellow centres. The plant has a habit of appearing in a slightly unruly fashion where you least expect it, but the cheerful clusters of flowers are always attractive.

To create this flower…

1. Fill a piping bag with light blue buttercream and hold the nozzle at a 20 to 30 degree angle.

2. Give the bag a firm squeeze and pipe a simple petal (see Basic Petal Strokes).

3. Repeat the same process and pipe a total of five petals from a common central point, always starting with the wide end of the nozzle at the same angle as it was for your first petal.

4. Repeat the same process and pipe several flowers close to each other. You can pipe a blob of buttercream to give extra height and pipe a flower on top.

5. Using untinted buttercream in a piping bag with a small hole at the tip, pipe about five short lines in between the petals which all radiate from the centre.

6. Pipe a small circle in the centre of each of the flowers with yellow buttercream, then pipe a smaller black dot in the centre of each yellow circle.
