Like a true romantic, I’ve been accused of wearing my heart on my sleeve and my smut dangling tantalizingly on a silver chain twined around my milky throat, delicious spare inches from my plunging neckline and trembling, buxom . . . oh, you get the picture.

My passions run deep, from noir jewelry accessories to trashy detective novels. And while I’m deeply enamored of the titillating verbiage and sleazy plot devices of ’50s and ’60s pulp fiction, it’s really the salacious cover art that makes my blood boil. The scantily clad, pop art femme fatales look stunning on this DIY choker; the supplies are super inexpensive; and best of all, you’ll have a great excuse to add a few more bombshells to your collection of racy reads.

SUPPLIES

Titillating pulp fiction novel with a great cover

¼-inch-high by ¾-inch-wide recessed pendant base (see Sources)

Clear packing tape

Scissors

Glue stick

Resin epoxy sealer (see Note)

Straight pin

Necklace chain and clasp (see Sources)

HOW TO

1. Take your favorite smarmy pulp novel to the copy shop (or use a home computer and scanner) and reduce the image size to fit inside the pendant frame.

2. Lay a strip of clear tape over the top of the printed image, pressing down firmly to get out any air bubbles. Many printer inks will bleed when the clear sealer is added, and the tape on top will protect your image from running.

3. Cut out your design and use a glue stick to tack it down into the pendant. This step is very important. Your paper art might float to the top of the sealer or have an uneven surface if it isn’t glued down and allowed to dry first.

4. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for applying the resin sealer on top of the pulp art. Use a small pin to poke out any air holes in the sealant.

5. Wait 24 hours for the pendant to dry, and don it on your favorite chain, you saucy minx, you!

Note:

I like to use Glossy Accents, a “clear dimensional embellishment sealer” (see Sources) because there is no mixing involved and it magnifies my images once the sealer dries.
