Named for the place I now call home, this stole contains just enough stitch variety to keep the project interesting without becoming overwhelming. Be sure to check the stitch guide for instructions to help you over the hump should you get stuck.
Intermediate
J/10 (6mm) crochet hook
4 skeins Worsted (no. 4) weight yarn (project shown uses Caron Simply Soft [315 yds/288m per 6 oz/170g skein] in color Sand)
583⁄4"× 21" (149.2cm × 53.3cm), excluding fringe
18 sts = 5" (12.7cm) and 6 rows = 21⁄2" (6.4cm) long in Basket Weave pattern
Cable, Arrow, Low Front Ridge, Basket Weave, Shadow Box
The even rows are worked with RS facing; the odd numbered rows are worked with WS facing.
Turning chains do not count as the first stitch of the next row.
I recommend cutting the tassels first and leaving the remainder of the yarn for the body of the stole. The best way to do this is by cutting a 10" (25.4cm) piece of sturdy cardboard and wrapping the string loosely around the cardboard. Be sure your tension is loose enough so as not to bend the cardboard. This will ensure even length of the strands. Cut the yarn at one end to create the strands.
This lovely border incorporates the Cable, Low Front Ridge and Arrow stitches.

Weave in ends.
Cut 230 24" (61cm) strands. Use 5 strands per tassel in every other ch-1 sp across ends. Knot each group of strands. Knot again, approx 1" (2.5cm) lower, using half of each tassel. For tassels on the ends, use all strands of end tassel plus half of the strands of the next tassel. After knotting all knots, carefully trim strands with sharp scissors to even all strands.
The center motif features the shadow box stitch bordered by the low front ridge and the cable stitch.
An elegant tied and knotted fringe.
