Knockardakin Wrap

This sweater wrap is a fun project with which to learn the Honeycomb and Wheat post stitches. These stitches can be mildly challenging at first, but once you pass through the learning curve, you’re home free!

Skill Level

Intermediate

Materials

K/1012 (6.5mm) crochet hook

10 skeins Worsted (no. 4) weight yarn (project shown uses Cestari [170 yds/153m per 3.5 oz/100g hank] in color no. 179116 Coxcomb)

Finished Dimensions

Stole: 66" × 13" (167.6cm × 33cm)

Back: 1812" × 2414" (47cm × 61.6cm)

Gauge

8 sts = 212" (6.4cm) and 8 rows = 434" (12.1cm) in Honeycomb pattern

Special Stitches

Honeycomb, Wheat Stitch

Pattern Notes

Even rows are with RS facing.

I recommend cutting the tassels first and leaving the remainder of the yarn for the body of the stole. Cut a 10" (25.4cm) piece of sturdy cardboard and wrap the string loosely around the cardboard. Be sure your tension is loose enough so as not to bend the cardboard. This will ensure even length of the strands. Cut the yarn at one end to create the strands.

FINISHING

Weave in loose ends. Follow directions for knotted fringe. Add fringe to both ends of the stole portions only.

KNOTTED FRINGE

Cut 110 20" (50.8cm) strands. Use 5 strands per tassel in every other ch-1 sp across the ends. Knot again, approx 1" (2.5cm) lower, using half of each tassel. For tassels on the ends, use all strands of the end tassel plus half of the strands of the next tassel. After knotting all knots, carefully trim strands with sharp scissors to even all strands.
