Top-of-the-heap psychic readings

Since opening in 1929, Bottom of the Cup has enjoyed a reputation for being not just the most venerable place for psychic readings in New Orleans, but also the most accurate and authentic. (You can get a less-expensive reading a few blocks away on Jackson Square—but be warned, you’ll get what you pay for.) Bottom of the Cup started out as a tearoom where shoppers in the midst of walking and eating their way through the French Quarter could relax. After they finished their cup of Earl Grey or chamomile, a fortune-teller would come by the table and read the remaining leaves. The shop still serves tea—they offer more than 100 types, from the familiar to the rare—and also sells a wide variety of metaphysical gift items like hanging charms, crystal balls, pendulums, and tarot card decks; but they remain best known for their psychics.

While all their readers are noteworthy, some have achieved celebrity status. Former owner Adele Mullen, who passed away in 2007, was one of the more famous. She left her career as a teacher to join the family business and discovered that her gifts for predicting the future exceeded her talents for correcting grammar. During her stewardship of the shop, national TV and radio networks sought her out for annual Superbowl predictions.

His prophecies—from serious economic forecasts to major sports outcomes—have been featured in numerous print and media outlets.

Bottom of the Cup provides an audio recording of your session so you can refresh your memory on the mantras you were supposed to repeat or go back to check the veracity of the predictions made whenever you like.
