* In 1972, columnist Jack Anderson published a memo, written by an ITT lobbyist named Dita Beard, stating that ITT had donated several hundred thousand dollars to the Republican cause, and for a favorable anti-trust action pending against ITT. Beard later disavowed the authenticity of the memo after she was visited in her hospital room by Hunt in a fright wig and sunglasses. It was later revealed through the Nixon tapes that the president called Kleindienst a “son of a bitch” when he ordered Kleindienst to ease off of his investigation of ITT, and when Kleindienst argued, the president asked him, “Don’t you speak English?”
