SECTION FOUR
Your Interactions

This section will help you apply the skills introduced in Section Two in a variety of settings. For each setting, we suggest a framework for how to structure the conversation.

As we go through these settings, we reference your “Personal Communication Style.” This is the innate way you approach interacting with other people. In many of our programs, we spend a great deal of time helping participants build awareness around their Personal Communication Style so that they can apply the skills in the appropriate settings while aware of their own filters for information. That topic is sufficiently dense to warrant its own book. Therefore, rather than trying to cover the topic in full here, we provide initial thoughts as to how you can begin to reflect on yourself as a communicator.

Here we'll cover the types of conversations introduced in the following chapters:

Chapter 12 It's a Dialogue, Not a Monologue: Conducting Effective Client Meetings

Chapter 13 You Can't Do It All: Delegating Successfully

Chapter 14 Do You Have a Minute? Sharing Meaningful Feedback

Chapter 15 Raise Your Glass: Giving Toasts

Chapter 16 Pass the Mic: Handling Introductions

Chapter 17 The Possibilities Are Endless: Facilitating Brainstorming Meetings
