Educate Yourself on Local Building/Safety Regulations

image

The shipping container home you eventually build will have to comply with building and safety regulations in your area. Unless the area is very remote, you will very likely need a building permit. The exact set of rules that you will need to comply with will vary, depending on where you plan to live.

We will cover this in more depth in Chapter Eight: Building Permit and Other Legal Requirements.

For now, research the relevant local regulations before you even purchase a shipping container. If you don’t, and build your shipping container home without a permit or violating certain regulations, you may be ordered to undo all your hard work, take it down, and possibly even remove the container from your property altogether.

Spend some time, and perhaps a little bit of money for sound advice, now and save yourself a lot of trouble later.
