Feedback
When somebody reads your graphic novel and offers their opinion,
that is called feedback. Not all feedback is going to be positive. Try
not to get offended. Listen to what the person has to say. (When my
editor gives me feedback, I like to write everything down and then go
over the notes. If I have questions, I ask for more details.)
It may not be easy for you to let go of your work. You may feel
exposed if your main character is you or part of you that nobody
knew existed.
Show your pages to somebody you like and respect and who likes
and respects you. You may find several people or just one person. It
can be a friend, teacher, relative, editor, or your graphic novel partner.
Why feedback is important
Somebody might say something that sparks an idea
you never thought of.
Somebody might say something you do not agree
with, but later you get what they were saying.
Somebody might say something that is so stupid you
wonder why you asked for their opinion in the first
place.
Whether you like or don’t like the critique, always thank the person
who took the time to read your graphic novel.
