1 Make one chain (see page 17). This is called the ‘turning chain’ and you make one at the start of every row of double crochet.
2 Skipping the chain you have just made, insert the hook from front to back into the next stitch (see page 24). There should be the two strands of the stitch and one loop on the hook.
3 Yarn over hook.
4 Draw the loop through the stitch to the front. There should be two loops on the hook.
5 Yarn over hook again.
6 Draw the loop through both loops on the hook to complete one double crochet. Follow Steps 2–6 to work one double crochet in the same way into every stitch across the row.
