A few final remarks before we bid you adieu.
Although it may be hard to fathom this when you haven’t washed your hair in days, had a hot cup of coffee in weeks, or slept in months, early motherhood will be a chapter in your life that you’ll look back upon with fondness.
You’ll mark the positive changes that it brought about in you. You’ll remember it as a time of self-discovery and character growth; as the time when you developed a firm code of morals to live by.
Is it the ethereal skip through the lavender fields you envisioned it to be when you got knocked up? Definitely not. But amidst all the pitfalls and imperfections, there are little bits of pure magic that somehow manage to hold the whole damn thing together.
Feeling the flutter of tiny limbs coming to life inside of your womb: That’s magic.
Watching a real, live baby emerge through a break in your skin: That’s magic.
Feeding that baby with milk that flows freely from your breasts: That’s magic.
Hearing the sound of your baby’s sweet voice saying “mama” while they touch your face: That’s friggin’ magic.
Being the mother of young children means putting up with a lot of bullshit, but it also means a home that’s filled with the sound of tiny feet running through the halls. It means a life filled with endless laughter, where imagination takes priority over reality.
Mama, this is it! These are the times that you will look back on as “the good old days.” Although it can be challenging (like, really challenging) to recognize it right now through a haze of boogers, sass, whining, and sleep regressions, these days truly are good.
Our hope for you is that you’ll embrace all the growth, patience, and maturity that this time has inspired, and use it to be even more of a badass. If you can figure out a way to be both unapologetically yourself and unequivocally a mom, then you’re going to be just fine. In fact, you’ll be better than fine; you’ll be a Rebel Mama.
And so, as the season of early motherhood comes to a close, we urge you to stride confidently into the next phase, knowing that no matter what new hurdles come your way, you’ve got this.
FIN.
