Congratulations! You have given yourself a gift—the gift of real food and optimal health. The main idea behind The 10-Day Detox Diet and The 10-Day Detox Diet Cookbook is to help you connect the dots between what you eat and how you feel, and to provide a way for you to experience the power of food as medicine. But now what? Now you can reintroduce foods (but only real foods) to your diet and monitor how you feel. I hope you never go back to eating processed, industrial science projects masquerading as food, or to pharmacological doses of sugar and flour. My hope is that you stick with real, whole, fresh food. My hope is for you to introduce beans, grains, and even small amounts of dairy and gluten and sugar (as a treat) and see how you feel. You now have a fresh start, an opportunity to transition to a new way of eating and to notice how your body likes (or doesn’t) certain foods, like gluten and dairy.
Depending on your goals, there are different options for transitioning off The 10-Day Detox Diet. I have created a free downloadable guide—The 10-Day Detox Diet Cookbook Companion Guide—with detailed guidelines on how to transition safely while enjoying a wide variety of delicious foods. The guide includes instructions on how to discover which transition plan is best for you, how to safely reintroduce foods without getting sick, and how to track their effects on your health. And I have also included a few delicious, easy recipes for the Transition Phase. Please go to www.10daydetox.com/tools to download your free guide!
This book is meant to help you figure out how to change your life through food. Whether you are just beginning to experiment with simple ways to prepare basic foods or expanding your repertoire to include new tastes and ingredients, I hope this book provides the road map, the tools and the inspiration. I had two main goals in writing this book.
First, I want to encourage you to cook real, delicious, and inspiring meals—for yourself, your family, or your entire community. As you stick to real foods prepared simply, you’ll notice the pounds come off, the cravings disappear, and just about every aspect of your health improve.
And second, I want you to feel so great after the 10 days that you’ll never want to return to the food desert from which you came. You will want to stay nourished and healthy. You’ll want to continue healing yourself, your family, and your community through food. And not just for 10 days, but for the rest of your life.
After all, better health doesn’t start and end in 10 days. It’s a life-long journey. I’ve set out to make that journey both doable and delicious. Bon voyage, and bon appétit!
