Berry Crumble

SERVES 12 • PREP TIME: 5 MINUTES / COOK TIME: 1 HOUR

This crumble customizes with whatever berries you have on hand, making it perfect for cleaning out your freezer and using the last of your seasonal berries. Mix this topping in just minutes, transfer it to the oven, and in a short hour you’ll have a dessert to drool over. Let it cool for about 30 minutes to allow the juices to thicken slightly before serving.

6 cups frozen berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries)

¼ cup sugar

¾ cup all-purpose flour

¾ cup rolled oats

¼ cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 Preheat the oven to 375°F.

2 In a large bowl, toss the berries with the sugar. Transfer to a medium baking dish.

3 In the same bowl, add the flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon, and stir well. Pour the melted butter over the mixture, and stir to blend.

4 Using your hands, press the mixture together into pieces, and place the clumps over the berries in the baking dish.

5 Bake for 1 hour, until the top is crisp and browned and the berries are bubbling. Let stand for 30 minutes before serving.

Substitution tip: You can use pretty much any fruit in a crumble with excellent results. Apples, peaches, pears, and plums also work great.
