Göring’s combat report following the latter fight provided sufficient detail to help his new Staffel-mate receive credit for his aerial victory over Alsace:17
‘I took off with Oberleutnant Loerzer and Vizefeldwebel Loerzer on a fighter patrol. About 4:30 p.m. I saw three Nieuports in the direction of Ober-Asbach. The [other] two German biplanes attacked. I immediately dived on the closest opponent, who had already been attacked by Vizefeldwebel Loerzer. I fired a few … shots at him and then attacked the second Nieuport, which after a short fight turned downwards and flew low towards home. Earlier I noticed heavy smoke coming from the Nieuport that had been attacked by Vizefeldwebel Loerzer and that the machine went downwards vertically. Despite the haze, I could see the increasing smoke all the way to the ground. The downed opponent lies in the large group of trees south of Sennheim. Because of the very strong easterly wind, we were blown several kilometres behind enemy lines during the fighting.’18
