All the lead and lead composite round shot from battlefields in Scotland and England, including Bosworth, together with a comparative sample from the Mary Rose, have been studied in the NEUTRA facility at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland (Figure 7.21).118 The first stage of analysis, to create 3D computer models of the internal structure of each projectile, began immediately following completion of the data collection in October 2012. Initial results are represented by images of two Bosworth round shot, one containing a stone pebble and the other an iron dice (Figure 7.22 and 7.25). In addition to revealing the detailed character and volume of the inclusions, initial processing has shown that some other rounds also contain small voids, probably resulting from air trapped during the casting process.
