SECTION 6

Salvation Approaches

As the other chapters have discussed, there are many aspects to evangelism. These include:

  Getting to know the Mormon

Hearing what the Mormon has to say

Understanding where the person is coming from

  Answering questions

  Asking our own questions

Now we’ve come to a place where we can talk about salvation and how it is possible to come into a relationship with God and Jesus as described in the Bible. Because it’s impossible to give good news without first explaining the “bad news,” Joel Groat shares in chapter 21 how to deliver the bad news (sin) in a way that shows how all people fall short of God’s glory. Some don’t want to wear a life preserver until they understand the consequence for those who don’t wear them is drowning. In chapter 22, Dr. Loren Pankratz—a Utah pastor—talks about grace and what it really means. Unless this concept is understood, a Mormon will attempt to earn God’s favor yet never be able to do it.

Next, John Kauer explains in chapter 23 what the word imputation means and shows how forgiveness of sins can come in no other way than a complete trust in the Jesus described in the Bible. Finally, Keith Walker ends the book by describing how to explain that nobody can do what Mormonism requires, using a few passages from unique LDS scripture. Mormon scriptures themselves are a powerful tool in showing the impossibility of anyone succeeding at the Mormon gospel.
