Fabric Requirements and Cutting

NOTE

Most of the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Pattern 3. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.

To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.

Make the Block

Make the Diamond Units

1. Sew 1 each of pieces B, C, D, and E around a piece A. (This will be a lot like making a Log Cabin block, but with slightly different shapes.) figure a

2. Sew corner pieces F1 and F2 to the diamond to make a unit 4½˝ × 6½˝. figure b

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to make a second diamond unit.

Finish the Block

1. Sew together the 2 diamond units.

2. Sew piece G to the left side of the block. figure c
