Fabric Requirements and Cutting

NOTE

Some of the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Pattern 6. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.

To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.

Make the Block

Make the Roofs

1. Sew a piece B1 to the left side of a piece A.

2. Sew a piece B2 to the right side to complete a roof unit, 3½˝ × 4½˝.

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to make a second roof unit. figure a

Make Column 1

1. Sew pieces D to the left and right sides of piece C.

2. Sew piece E to the top of unit CD, and piece F to the bottom.

3. Sew a roof unit to the top to complete column 1. figure b

Make Column 2

1. Sew together 2 pieces I. Sew together the remaining pieces I.

2. Sew the pieced units I to the left and right sides of piece G.

3. Sew pieces H to the top and bottom of unit GI. Sew the remaining piece H to the bottom.

4. Sew the remaining roof unit to the top to complete column 2. figure c
