Fabric Requirements and Cutting

NOTE

Some of the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Patterns 8 and 9. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.

To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.

Make the Block

Make the Left Side

1. Sew pieces C1–C4 together, aligning the pieces at the top. figure a

2. Use Template C from Pattern 8 to cut unit C from the pieced unit. figure a

3. Sew pieces D1–D4 together, aligning the pieces at the bottom. figure b

4. Use Template D from Pattern 8 to cut unit D from the pieced unit. figure b

5. Sew piece B1 and piece B2 to piece A. figure d

6. Sew unit C and unit D to unit AB. figure d

Make the Right Side

1. Sew pieces E1–E4 together. figure c

2. Use Template E from Pattern 9 to cut unit E from the pieced unit. figure c

3. Sew piece F1 and piece F2 to unit E. figure d

4. Sew piece G and piece H to unit EF. figure d

Finish the Block

Sew together the left and right sides. figure d
