Fabric Requirements and Cutting
NOTE
Some of the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Patterns 18 and 19. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.
To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.
Make the Block
Make the Triangle Units
1. Sew together pieces A1–A4, aligning the pieces at the bottom. Use Template A from Pattern 18 to cut triangle A from the pieced unit. figure a
2. Sew together triangle A and piece B to make a square unit 5½˝ × 5½˝. figure b
3. Sew together pieces C and D to make a square unit 3½˝ × 3½˝. figure c
Finish the Block
Sew piece E to the bottom of triangle unit CD. Sew together triangle unit AB and unit CDE. figure d
