Fabric Requirements and Cutting

NOTE

Most of the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Pattern 22. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.

To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.

Make the Block

Make the Contrasting Point Units

Sew pieces B1 and B2 to a piece A. Repeat to make a total of 2 contrasting point units, each 2½˝ × 2½˝. figure a

Make the Point Units

Sew 1 each of pieces D1 and D2 to a piece C. Repeat to make a total of 6 point units, each 2½˝ × 2½˝. figure b

Make Two Stars

1. Sew 3 point units and a contrasting point unit into 2 rows of 2 units each. For the left star, place the contrasting unit in the lower left corner.

2. Sew the rows together. figure c

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2, placing the contrasting unit in the upper right corner, to make the right star. figure d

Finish the Block

1. Sew together the left and right stars.

2. Sew pieces E to the top and bottom of the block. figure e
