Fabric Requirements and Cutting

NOTE

All the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Pattern 24 (pullout page P1). The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.

To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.

Make the Block

Make the Diamond Units

1. Sew pieces B1 to opposite sides of a piece A.

2. Sew pieces B2 to the remaining sides of piece A to make a diamond unit, 2½˝ × 5½˝.

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to create a total of 3 diamond units. figures a & b

Make the Contrasting Diamond Unit

1. Sew pieces D1 to opposite sides of piece C.

2. Sew pieces D2 to the remaining sides of piece C to make a contrasting diamond unit, 2½˝ × 5½˝. figure c

Finish the Block

Sew together the diamond units, placing the contrasting unit third from the left. figure d
