Fabric Requirements and Cutting
NOTE
Some of the pieces in this block will be cut using templates from Pattern 29. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.
To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.
Make the Block
1. Sew one each of pieces B1 and B2 to a piece A. Repeat to create 2 units AB, each 3½˝ × 5½˝. figure a
2. Sew together pieces C1, C2, and C3 so that each piece is centered below the adjacent piece.
3. Use Template C from Pattern 29 to cut unit C from the pieced unit. figure b
4. Sew pieces B2 and B1 to unit C. Repeat to create 2 units BC, each 3½˝ × 5½˝. figure c
Finish the Block
1. Sew together a unit AB and a unit BC to make an hourglass shape 5½˝ × 6½˝. Repeat to make a second unit AB/BC. figure d
2. Sew piece D between the 2 ABC units.
3. Sew pieces E to the top and bottom of the block. figure e
