Fabric Requirements and Cutting

NOTE

Most of the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Pattern 31. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.

To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.

Make the Block

1. Sew a piece C1 to the left side of each piece A, and a piece C2 to the right side, to make a unit AC, 2½˝ × 4½˝. Repeat to make a total of 3 units AC. figure a

2. Sew a piece C2 to the left side of each piece B, and a piece C1 to the right side, to make a unit BC, 2½˝ × 4½˝. Repeat to make a total of 3 units BC. figure b

3. Sew together units AC and BC to make 3 sets. Sew together the 3 sets AC/BC. figure c

Finish the Block

1. Sew pieces D to the top and bottom.

2. Sew pieces E to the left and right sides. figure d
