Fabric Requirements and Cutting

NOTE

Most of the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Pattern 34. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.

To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.

Make the Block

Make the Point Units

1. Sew pieces C1 and C2 to pieces A to make 3 contrasting point units, 2½˝ × 2½˝ each. figure a

2. Sew pieces D1 and D2 to pieces B to make 9 point units, 2½˝ × 2½˝ each. figure b

Make the Star Units

Sew together 3 point units and 1 contrasting point unit to make a star unit. Repeat to make 3 star units. figure c

Finish the Block

1. Arrange the 3 star units in a column. Sew pieces E to the left sides of the top and bottom star units.

2. Sew the remaining piece E to the right side of the middle star unit.

3. Sew together the star units, sewing pieces F between them. figure d
