Fabric Requirements and Cutting

NOTE

Most of the pieces in this block are cut using templates from Pattern 43. The dimensions listed in the chart under “Size to Cut” represent the amount of fabric required for each piece. More fabric may be required for shortcut piecing or fussy cutting.

To make a template from a pattern, refer to Making and Using Freezer-Paper Templates. When cutting your fabric, remember to add seam allowances and mark points for matching seams.

Make the Block

1. Sew a piece B2 to the top of a piece A. Sew a piece B1 to the bottom of piece A.

2. Repeat Step 1 to make a total of 3 units AB, each 4˝ × 5½˝. figure a

3. Center and sew together pieces C1–C5. Use Template C from Pattern 43 to cut unit C from the pieced unit. figure b

4. Sew a piece D2 to the top of unit C, and a piece D1 to the bottom. figure c

5. Sew together units AB and CD. figure d
