Hot Mama Smoothie

Spicy foods are perfectly safe to eat when you’re pregnant. With that said, they’re a personal preference because heartburn is a common ailment during pregnancy. Spicy foods can aggravate this heartburn especially in the third trimester when the baby is larger, causing stomach acid to be pushed up to the esophagus. But if that doesn’t bother you, try this delicious and spicy smoothie.

Recipe Yields: 3–4 cups

2 cups arugula

1 small jalapeño, seeded

2 small apples of choice, cored and peeled

1 orange, peeled and seeded

12" knob ginger, peeled

2 cups water

  1. Combine all ingredients and blend on high until smooth.
  2. Add more liquid if necessary.
