Glossary

EFT—acronym for Emotional Freedom Technique developed by Gary Craig. It is a process of tapping on different meridian points on the face and body in order to relieve stress and facilitate repairing emotional flow. (Google it for free training sessions.)

God—(synonyms) infinite SELF, SELF, Self, higher power, force, universal intelligence.

hurts, dramas, traumas, upsets, disappointments, and fears—lies that crash into our lives and make us feel small or fearful and limit our sense of what’s possible for our lives.

infinite SELF (all caps)—highest SELF—God within us. It is the never-ending, uninterruptable SELF that has existed throughout time and that all things come from. SELF courses through all life and everything. It stands before life unaffected by the chaos of human confusion and fear.

inner fitness—the development and practice of inner skills that support mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing by expanding awareness, fostering resilience, and helping resolve unresolved issues so that we can thrive as our true Self.

lie—a false or inaccurate statement, belief, perspective, or impression that belies our innate wholeness and worth.

observer’s chair—when we set an intention with our Self to objectively observe our surviving self in action and catch sight of habitual negative or unsupportive behaviors and attitudes, we imagine ourselves sitting in the observer’s chair. This is a great way to become conscious of the unconscious things we believe, do, say, or think.

pain-pattern (pain-body)—chronic emotional pain that develops a life all its own inside of us. Once created, our pain-pattern (pain-body) fights to stay alive in us. The food it requires is more of the same kind of pain that created it.

sacred torture—an intimidating or painful thought or past experience that we hold on to and that seems to have a life all its own.

Self-care—acknowledging and honoring our innate worth and tending to the needs of the inner Self.

surviving self (lowercase s)—is quick to judge and take things personally and is always ready for a fight—attacking, proving, protecting, or blaming itself or others. It thinks that the image it sees in the mirror is all that it is and therefore fears for its life.

thriving Self (capital S)—sees every situation as an opportunity to grow and expand and believes that anything and everything can change for the better. It dwells in energies such as hope, possibility, enthusiasm, and gratitude.

“up until now” and “from this point forward”—we can use these phrases to acknowledge how things have been up until now yet then pivot toward what is possible from this point forward. This way of thinking opens a door where hope has been lost.
