This pattern is worked as one continuous piece from front to back, crocheted in worsted-weight cotton. Crocodile stitch creates the ruffles on the bottom.
Instructions are given for right-handed crocheters with left-handed instructions in brackets: Holding piece with first st to be worked rotated to the 3 o’clock [9 o’clock] position and working from right to left [left to right], 5 dc around post of next dc; rotate piece 180° to the 9 o’clock [3 o’clock] position, 5 dc around post of next dc.

Cover up that cloth or disposable diaper with a little panache. The soft cotton yarn is machine washable, and the row of double crochet in the waistband makes it adjustable — just insert the buttons in the holes that make the best fit.
Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *dc in next sc, sc in next dc; repeat from * across, turn.

These two versions of Octagon Pants are worked from the center outward in one piece using your choice of stitch pattern: back loop single crochet or double crochet with openwork. The fabric will almost magically fold itself into a pair of pants. The waistband and cuffs on the yellow sample are knitted, but you can substitute the crocheted waistband on the Blue Pants if you like.
With RS facing, insert the needle under both strands of the edge st, then wrap the yarn around the needle and knit the picked-up st.

Keep baby snug but mobile in these tie-at-the-waist pants. Work the two legs separately in the round, work a few rows back and forth on each, then join the legs together in the round to finish the seat to the waist. If you have enough yarn left over, work an I-cord for the top; if not, use a shoelace or ribbon.
Rnd 1: Work an even number of fdc; join with slip st to first fdc to form a rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, skip first st, *sc in next st, ch 1, skip next st; repeat from * around to last st, sc in last st, ch 1, join with slip st to beginning ch-1.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, work dc2tog over same st and next ch-space, ch 1, *dc2tog over same and next space, ch 1; repeat from * around, join with slip st to top of beginning ch-3.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, skip next st, *sc in next space, ch 1, skip next st; repeat from * to last space, sc in last space, ch 1, join with slip st to beginning ch-1.
