Slow Cooker SMOKY SPLIT PEA AND LENTIL SOUP

Everyone needs an easy-to-throw-together slow cooker soup. This one is filling, flavorful and best of all, it’s ready to eat when you come in the door from work. —KH

SERVES 6

4 cups (960 ml) water

¾ cup (169 g) split green peas

½ cup (100 g) autumn lentil blend (or equal parts yellow, red and brown lentils)

1 tsp liquid smoke

1 tsp marjoram

½ tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp onion powder

½ tsp garlic powder

¼ cup (20 g) nutritional yeast

Salt and pepper, to taste

In your 4-quart (3.8-L) slow cooker, add the water, split green peas, lentil blend, liquid smoke, marjoram, smoked paprika, onion powder and garlic powder. Cook on low for 7 to 9 hours.

Before serving, stir in the nutritional yeast. Then add salt and pepper, to taste.
