Don’t you love it when things that are super easy to make yield amazing results? All the awesomeness minus the maximum amount of elbow grease. Not that we’re lazy, but come on. Simple is great. —CS
SERVES 3 TO 4
1 tbsp (15 ml) toasted sesame oil
1 lb (454 g) super-firm tofu, cut into ¾” (2-cm) cubes
Scant ¼ cup (60 ml) Tare
Place the oil in a large wok or saucepan. Heat over medium-high heat, add the tofu and fry until the tofu is golden brown on all sides, about 8 minutes. Adjust the heat as needed. Don’t flip the tofu too often; allow each side to sear. Once golden brown, add the tare and cook until the tofu is glazed, about 3 minutes. Stir occasionally. Remove the pan from the heat and use in Forbidden Broth, Japanese-Inspired Sandwiches and Shiitake Chickpea Crepes. Serve with Ponzu Sauce. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
